As for me, I won't be in Texas for Independence Day...ever since I was a little girl, we've had a family reunion on the 4th. It has ebbed and flowed, evolved and changed, and the faces I see there now are quite different than the ones from my youth, but it's still a great time to kick back, do some water skiing (well, now it's watch my kids learn how while I slather on the 50 SPF), eat some amazing food, and catch up with family.
I do wish I was staying in town this year, though. The moms over at MomsOutLoud.com have put together an amazing list of things to do this weekend. There is so much more to do than just wait till dark to see some fireworks...The Ice Cream Crank Off in McKinney, The Children's Parade in Flower Mound, The Patriot Pops Concert in Plano, The Tea Party at Southfork Ranch. The Texas-sized list includes 50+ events going on this weekend all over the metroplex - you're sure to find something.
Only in Texas would you have so many choices on how to celebrate Independence Day. Interested in learning more about Independence Day history and how it's celebrated in other parts of the country? Find it all here. Happy Birthday, America!
