Wow. Just...wow. I feel so honored, inspired, humbled, and proud all at the same time. (Kinda like when I watch my son hit a homerun.) MomCheck was named as one of the Top 200 Leading Moms in Business in the 2009 StartupNation Competition. You can read our press release here.
We found this contest about halfway through its run - and naturally we entered right away, and we emailed our users and told everyone we knew. Then we got busy with life, and we didn't think too much about the contest until around a week before it was over, we received an email saying we were in the running. Really? Out of several thousand entries, we were in the top 200? Oh how supercool is that?!
We know we're on to something here - this MomCheck thing - it's big. It's necessary. It's revolutionary. It's (wait for it....) the greatest thing since sliced bread! We think so, anyway, and most people we come into contact with immediately get what we're doing, say they wished they had thought of it, had when they were looking for daycare, etc. However, just because WE know it's great, and the people we KNOW think it's great, that doesn't mean it IS great. But this competition was completely voter-based. And we had enough votes to land us at #108.
After I sent the congratulatory email to my partners, we conferenced about it and we were all so excited, and at the same time, we all immediately gave the credit to our users. (Isn't that just like a mom? Never taking credit?) Without our incredible users, who give us their insights, their wants, their needs about finding childcare, none of this would have been possible. (Why do I suddenly feel like I'm giving an Academy Award speech and the music is going to play any second?)
